Phoebe Mingquan Shen is a producer working between Los Angeles and Berlin, with narrative films produced across Germany, the United States, and China. She collaborates with emerging filmmakers and independent companies on both sides of the Atlantic, with recent producing work at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB), HFF München, and Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, including projects supported by German funds and prizes such as FFF Bayern, RBB and the Caligari Prize. She moves fluently between the European film-funding landscape and the US independent scene, and is drawn to work that connects the two.
She is currently completing her MFA at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) while building her first feature slate. Her background as a filmmaker shapes how she produces — close to the story, close to people behind the story — and her taste runs toward bold, culturally resonant storytelling in contemporary auteur voices.
Phoebe didn't come to producing by a conventional route; it grew out of years of making films wherever she found herself, building collaborations from the ground up across unfamiliar places. That path shaped her instincts as a producer: resourceful, resilient, and deeply committed to the stories she believes in. If she can piece together a life across borders, she's confident she can piece together a film wherever it takes shape.
